From the time an order is placed it should take between one and two weeks to make a carpet for a customer. If a flooring company tells you three weeks after you order that your carpet has still not been made, get your money back right away. They might have a problem with the mill, like they did not pay their line of credit and they cannot order more carpet until it is paid. This could mean the flooring company is broke and they are using your money as working capital hoping you believe the carpet is in the mail don't worry it will come. A broke flooring company can sell $50,000 in carpeting to homeowners easily in one weeks' time and not order the carpet for weeks in order to use the customers deposit collectively as working capital. Some flooring companies charge tax on the labor of carpet installations. This is fraud! Never ever pay tax on labor. There is no such thing. This is why you should always have your pricing broken out when a flooring company gives you an estimate; materials, labor, and tax. If a flooring company gives you one price and taxes the whole thing then kick them out of your house--they are breaking the law.

You Need New Carpet Scam

A common problem I see with a lot of customers is they have a great carpet but they have a dirty pad underneath. No matter how many times a customer cleans their carpet they can't figure out why the carpet stains keep reappearing. So the customer after paying tons of money to a carpet cleaning company gives up, and then calls a flooring company to replace all the carpet in their home. Well what the customer doesn't know is that sometimes the carpet is fine and the carpet just needs to be rolled up and the old pad underneath switched out for new padding.

Then the existing old carpet can be rolled back over the new pad and then cleaned. Amazingly, no more stains appear. Wow! Why not? The pad under the existing carpet was dirty and stained, not the carpet. Every time a customer would walk over the dirty padding the dirt would move from the old pad to the surface of the good carpet, thus making the customer believe they need to spend thousands on new carpeting when really all they needed was $300 in new carpet padding in order to solve their problems. Carpet companies never tell customers they could do this and save thousands. Why would they? They wouldn't make any money by being honest. I have personally caught carpet installers carefully taking old carpet out of a house in as big of rolls as possible only to be cleaned in an open parking lot down the street by a friend who owns a carpet clean company. After the carpets are cleaned, the now new-looking carpet is sold in rolls at the local weekend swap meets at 100 percent profit for the installers and carpet cleaner to split evenly.
