The BitTorrent tracker of popular torrent site Demonoid came back online Monday after Demonoid?s website was shut down by Ukrainian authorities three months ago, signaling a return of Demonoid?s full website, according to a report by TorrentFreak.

The index and forum continue to be offline, but thousands of torrents tracked by Demonoid have resurfaced on the Internet.

In early August, Ukrainian authorities raided Demonoid?s data center and seized servers from its web hosting provider ColoCall in a move that was spearheaded by investigators at the Anti-Cyber Research Affairs in Kiev.

Web hosting providers ought to be aware of the legal implications of hosting BitTorrent trackers and other sites that distribute copyright-infringed content.

These kinds of incidents should act as a precautionary tale for web hosts to protect themselves within their business practices.

This topic was addressed in attorney David Snead?s presentation at HostingCon 2012, in which he discussed the important legal lessons web hosts can take away from the Megaupload indictment.

Demonoid?s new web hosting provider appears to be physically located in Hong Kong, according to the IP address linked to the tracker.

In previous closures of Demonoid?s website back in 2007 and 2009, its tracker came back online before its website came back online, although it took several weeks for the website to return online, according to TorrentFreak.

Notorious hacker group Anonymous retaliated to Demonoid?s shutdown in August by launching DDos attacks against the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Agency for Copyright and Related Rights and the Ukrainian Anti-Piracy Association.
